SPARK RIDERS 3000
physical-board companion · voice interaction · Arkada Studio
i contributed to Arkada Studio’s Flutter companion for a cooperative survival and tower-defense board game. the physical box is required; IRIS, the fictional ship assistant, relays ship status, threats and communications.
THE WORK
01 · PROBLEM · APPROACH · OUTCOMEA board, an app, a shared situation.
Spark Riders 3000 puts one to four players around a physical spaceship. the cooperative survival and tower-defense game pairs its board, cards and miniatures with a companion app. it needs the game box, not just a phone. the publisher lists a 60-minute playtime.
IRIS is the fictional ship assistant. through the app, it relays ship status, alien actions and communications while players work together at the table. the mobile interface sits alongside physical play: information on screen belongs to the same situation unfolding on the board.
Audio, speech and game UI.
my Flutter contribution covered background music and sound-effect coordination, text-to-speech output and speech-recognition input for IRIS. i integrated those interactions with sentence-driven gameplay UI, coordinating returned dialogue, speech completion and screen updates. i also worked on the app’s integration with gameplay actions from the backend.
the work ran from May 2023 through January 2024, within Arkada Studio’s development team. it also included QR-based box and add-on activation screens. that is mobile interaction work: connecting audio, input and visible state, rather than authorship of the board-game design or its expansions.
iOS released. Both stores now listed.
Arkada Studio credits Mohamed Elamin among six developers. my contribution ended in January 2024; Apple records the initial iOS release on 11 February 2024. the companion is currently listed on the App Store and Google Play. those listings describe the product today, not the limits of my earlier work.
the result i can speak to is a contribution to connected mobile interactions around a physical game. the product has continued to change since then. the store links and imagery below show current public product context, not a claim that i authored each later update.

06Coordinate separate responsibilities.
audio playback, speech and screen state are different jobs. working with returned sentences made their handoffs explicit: a line of dialogue has a playback sequence and a place in the interface.
An assistant is an interface.
IRIS gives ship status and communications a focal point. my part was integrating those interactions, not writing or performing the characters. the assistant belongs to a game with a wider voiced cast.
Put a date on the contribution.
a team’s product keeps moving after one contributor’s work ends. May 2023–January 2024 describes my part; present-day listings describe the game now. both belong on the page, without collapsing one into the other.
